Homeschool Planning: Learning Plans

Hello, homeschoolers! We are on our second part of homeschool planning for the SY 2023-2024. In our last episode, we talked about what learning competencies are, why they are important, and how we can get them. We also talked about learning gaps. For this vlog, we will explore how we create learning plans.

In previous years, I prefer writing on my homeschool planner our lesson plans and schedule. Last year, however, our homeschool provider required us to submit learning plans at the end of each quarter. Quite frankly, it is tedious to type down on Google Docs what I have written on the planner and submit to the provider. So this school year, I am creating the learning plans through the Google sheet I made. At the end of the quarter, I can just download it as PDF and submit it to my homeschool provider.

The columns included in the learning plans we pass to the provider are Learning Area (subject), Learning Tasks (activities or lessons that you will do), dates covered, remarks, name of learner, and level. For our planner, I added the week and resources. For the remarks column, I added Scores so that I won't miss them when we do the tasks.

Work in Progress for our learning plans.

I don't plan a year ahead in our lessons. I plan lessons every quarter only. For one, it is tedious to create for the whole year and I don't have the time to do it in 3 weeks time. And second, it gives us the flexibility to change our lessons should there be a need for us to delay some lessons or change any materials in the middle of the school year.

After copying the competencies for that quarter, I arrange it in our planner in a way that would fit our schedule. For example, kung may lesson na mas maganda na mag nature walk, ilalagay ko yun sa week na pwede kami lumabas. Or in our case na multi-level homeschooled kids, we align their lessons together para isang turuan na lang.

I type in the tasks and activities that we can do to learn the topic. And if there would be any additional activities we can do, I just add them there. It also helps to indicate which resource we will be using for that lesson. Anong book or workbook ang gagamitin, app or board game. Specially for links to YouTube videos or PowerPoint presentation provided by the provider. Para kapag time na for the lesson, madaling mahanap yung resource na kailangan for that week.
