Who's that Pokemon?

People are naturally giving and loving. That’s our true nature. 💕

More than 15 years ago, when I was a bum for almost 6 months after dropping my Master’s degree and resigning from my night shift BPO job, a friend of mine reached out. She was holding then training for people who wanted to be call center agents (Tesda program ata ito) and asked me if I could drop by her class and give tips to them. At that time I already had experience as an agent, QA, and HR. I had nothing to do so I was a perfect candidate to give a talk.

I had a long travel time and reached the training room already exhausted on that sunny afternoon. I gave my short talk and waited for my friend to finish her class.

That same afternoon, we all went to an Ukay store on the ground floor of the building. We were all just chatting and having fun when they all decided to chip in and buy me a gift. They gave me a Pokémon stuffed toy.

These men and women who had no jobs (at that time since they were in training) and were dreaming of joining the BPO workforce met me, a complete stranger, and yet gave their hearts and gifted me a cute plushie. I did nothing special but apparently, I did something they really liked.

Up to this day, I still feel that joy in my heart whenever I remember that day. I no longer remember their names or their faces but I hope that they were able to fulfill their dreams and are soaring in their careers. They deserve nothing but the best in life. They are giving, and the universe for sure is giving them back what is best for them.

So whenever I feel down like a loser and have nothing to offer in this world, I go back to that moment. The things that we do, however simple, or however we think as mababaw for us, to others may just be the spark they need to move forward.

So smile, who knows, the person you will meet in the lobby or hallway just needs a smile to ease their day.

Be kind and loving because that’s your true nature. That’s your inner being.
