Modern Shanghai in Trinoma

The family is getting bigger, and the kids have bigger appetites. So when we dine outside, it is a must to eat at a sit-down restaurant instead of the usual fastfood. In Trinoma in Quezon City, several restaurants are in the Garden Area (topmost floor, level of the cinemas). We tried Modern Shanghai, a restaurant by the Bistro Americano Corporation. The restaurant presents dishes inspired by Beijing, Sichuan, and Shanghai cuisine.

The branch in Trinoma for me is relatively small. If you are visiting on a weekend, expect a queue. We arrived around 11:20am and it was almost full already. It is best to arrive before lunch time especially on Sundays since groups dine here after church service.

I recently learned that you can reserve a table online through their website, but this is only available to some of their branches, and Trinoma is not one of these. There are more than 20 branches of Modern Shanghai in Luzon and 1 branch in Visayas (Ayala Bacolod).

Here are the things we ordered (please take note the photos and prices were from August 2024).

Shanghai Lily
Lychee, mint leaves, and soda water
 Php168

A short review on this Shanghai Lily drink: my kid ordered it but didn't like it. It was okay to me, I'm just not used to this kind of drink.

Other drinks we ordered were mango shakes for Php158.

Pan-fried Shanghai Pork Buns
Ground pork stuffing, spring onion, wheat, dough wrapper
Php 298 (4 pieces)

As I write this, I am a bit confused. My receipt says that it was for 6 pieces but the menu shows only 4 pieces. I guess we got this on a promo back in August? Nah, I have no idea.

Roasted Crispy Pork, Regular, Php 528
Pork belly, pickled carrots and cucumber,
hoisin sauce

Deep-fried pork ribs, small, Php 468
Marinated pork belly, garlic, bell pepper, spring onion,
garlic seasoning, wanton chips

Their Signature Xiao Long Bao
Php 268 for 6 pieces

Yang Chow Fried Rice, to share Php 498

Crispy Fried Noodles Php498
Egg noodles, squid, shrimp, fish fillet,
bean sprout, brown sauce

With a service charge of 7.5% on top of our bill, we paid almost 4 thousand pesos for our lunch. For a family of five (2 adults, 1 teenager, and 2 kids between 7-9), the serving was more than enough for us.

Overall, my family loved their dishes and the prices were just about right. They also have other branches in Quezon City so check their website for more information.
