Costs of Homeschooling School Year 2024-2025

cost of homeschool in the philippines

We are almost done with the school year, and I want to share our expenses for homeschooling two kids here in the Philippines. Just a background, we have been homeschooling since our first child was born in 2011. Our three kids were homeschooled since birth, and our eldest has transitioned already from homeschool to a traditional school. For this article, the costs of homeschooling will be for the two younger kids, ages 7-9. They are both in elementary school. Please note that some of the items are estimates as I have lost track of exact amounts.

Tuition

We transitioned from a DepEd-accredited homeschool provider to a US homeschool provider this school year. This means that the kids are not in the system of the Department of Education in the Philippines. We are considered independent homeschoolers. There are differences in the subjects and curriculum.

Our kids are enrolled in HomeLife Academy, a non-traditional K-12 private school for homeschoolers. We did not go directly to HLA but opted to enroll under their local partner here in the Philippines, Better Together Homeschool International

Under the US Program for families with multiple kids, we paid Php 29,500 for the whole school year for both kids.

Curriculum

For our curriculum, we have the subjects Math, Language Arts, Philippine History (Social Science), and Science, We have added electives such as Foreign Language (Filipino), Arts, and PE. We have materials already in our home library so the list I will include here would be the additional things we spent this year.

Math

We used Math with Confidence by Kate Snow as our curriculum. You can buy the printed version through Amazon or Well-trained Mind, but you will be paying the shipping as it will be coming from the US. We opted to buy the digital formats and just printed them at home.
  • Math with Confidence 2 Workbook - P750
  • Math with Confidence 3 Teacher's Guide - P1,300
  • Math with Confidence 3 Workbook A - P750
  • Math with Confidence 3 Workbook B - P750
  • Math with Confidence 4 Teacher's Guide - P1,300
  • Math with Confidence 4 Workbook A - P750

For our Grade 4 student, she started using MWC 3 Workbook B for the first half of the school year and then moved on to MWC 4 Workbook A for the latter half.

Our Grade 2 student, who finished his MWC 2 level at an earlier time, is now working on MWC 3 Workbook A.

Science

We printed out the free Marine Biology course of The Good and the Beautiful, including the journals. I added a few materials from Teachers Pay Teachers.

Language Arts

We got free curriculum for Language Arts through The Good and the Beautiful and had it printed through a store. We also bought spelling workbooks through Shopee.

Arts and PE

We used YouTube for our curriculum in the arts and had the kids enrolled in a few classes of Taekwondo for PE.

Field trip and other materials

We also went on field trips throughout the school year. For this article, I have only included our trips to the museum, which included tickets, food, and transport. For other trips with the whole family, I have not included them in the costing for homeschool.

Aside from school, craft, and arts supplies, I also bought a new printer, another trolley, and some items to help me organize our stuff.

Total Cost this SY 2024-2025

Overall, as independent homeschoolers, we spent more than Php60,000 for both kids.

The expenses per homeschooling family will differ. We have different needs, prefer different materials and curriculum, and lifestyles. The amount you will spend on homeschooling in the Philippines will depend on how much you are willing to spend.

I can still say that homeschooling is relatively cheaper than if I send the kids to private schools since I have to factor in the expenses the travel, baon, books, projects, and others.

How about you? How much did you spend this school year?
