Our Experience: Hortikultura Filipina 2018

Last February 3, Baby Ignis and I went to the Quezon Memorial Circle to join a walking tour of the Hortikultura Filipina 2018 with fellow bloggers and media. The tour was led by Mr. Rence Chan.

That Saturday morning was a good day for a tour with a low chance of rain and temperature of 24-30 degrees. Since we'd be walking I decided to bring the stroller and put Baby I there instead of babywearing him for at least 3 hours. We got to the meeting place 10 minutes before 8 and the parking slot is already filled with cars and people have been walking and exercising around the park.

Our first stop was to register and get our event IDs at the secretariat. I admit that I should have listened to Rence more when he was explaining about the plants we were seeing but the little baby I had was too demanding that I had to roll him around the area, sometimes away from the group. Nevertheless, my breath was taken away by the beauty of nature. It was like Panagbenga in Manila with all those flowers (without the float and crowd haha!).

Tip: Wear something comfortable for walking. Bring with you a bottle of water and umbrella. And if you are with your kids, don't forget the mosquito repellent lotion or patch. Also, bring ecobags if you plan to purchase any item. Bawal ang plastic sa QC kasi.

What is Hortikultura Filipina?

The Philippine Horticulture Society Inc is a non-stock, non-profit organization of plant lovers that aspires to spread their passion and enthusiasm for plants. It endeavors to be the lead organization in the science and art of growing plants in the Philippines. One of the events they lead is the Hortikultura Festival - a horticultural festival held annually as the largest and most prestigious horticultural event in the country. It showcases the endemic, indigenous, and plant hybrids that aims to promote the Quezon Memorial Circle as the showcase place for gardening and horticultural practices. This year's festival will run from February 2-11 at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City.
